Sampling and Suing
Here’s a clip(sample?) of an article on the topic of musical sampling… something I do all the time as a musician:
A music activism group is encouraging people to remix a controversial sample from Funkadelic to draw attention to a court ruling that requires all musicians to get permission before sampling any music — even if it would be unrecognizable in the new work.
I for one think that it’s ridiculous to enact or enforce this rule. How do you identify an unrecognizable music/audio clip in a track through anything other than the author’s own recognizance? I don’t see how this will hold up.
